Celtic are set to offer Rekeem Harper “a bumper contract” in their attempts to lure the midfield talent north of the border this summer, as reported by website Football Insider.
What’s the story?
The Hoops have already added prospect Luca Connell to the middle of the park this summer but another English Championship player could be on his way.
The outlet reckons that Celtic can sign the player, whose contract at West Brom expired this summer, for a compensation fee of just £250,000, far less than any interested English clubs.
However, it is said that new Baggies boss Slaven Bilic is keen on the player and is hopeful of keeping him at the Hawthorns for next season.
Leigh Griffiths is ready and raring to go for Celtic next season. One fan discusses what we can expect from him in the video below…
What can he offer Celtic?
The 19-year-old made a serious breakthrough at West Brom last season, making 23 appearances in all competitions.
All but one of his Championship appearances came in the second half of the season, with the England youth international becoming a regular for the promotion chasing outfit.
Analysis website Total Football Analysis did a deep dive on his potential back in January, describing him as “a superb box-to-box prospect” and concluding that he is “such an exciting player”.

Clearly, signing a highly-rated prospect on the cheap is a move worth making for the Hoops, with the reported £250,000 fee making him a fairly risk free acquisition considering Celtic’s resources.
If the Harper deal can be concluded, Celtic would suddenly have a trio of young, upcoming midfield prospects at their disposal, with Connell and Ewan Henderson both ready for more football too after breaking into the Bolton and Celtic first-teams last season.
With Scott Brown coming to the end of his career and the potential for other players to leave for big fees, having a group of players with serious potential ready to eventually replace established stars is a great move on Celtic’s part and bodes well for the midfield moving forward.
