Is Johnson worth the hassle?
Over the last few years there has been debate about the grassroots of football and whether enough homegrown talent is being developed by top-level clubs.
It is clear that ready-made foreign stars are dominating the Premier League, but it seems that Everton are keen to improve their pool of youth talent.
This season, manager Ronald Koeman has given chances to academy product and local boy 18-year-old Tom Davies, as well as 19-year-old Ademola Lookman, who joined the Toffees from Charlton Athletic in January.
Johnson is highly rated and would be a positive addition to Everton’s academy, but it is understandable why Forest want to continue shaping the midfielder.
From Johnson’s point of view, developing his skills at a Premier League club would provide invaluable experience, but he will have a better chance of faster progression into the first team at the City Ground.
