Celtic are scrambling to sign a striker before the end of the window and may have found an alternative candidate to replace Adam Idah, according to a report.
Celtic dice with danger in Kasper Dolberg pursuit
Truthfully, Celtic’s transfer window has become a disorganised sequence of events that threatens to leave the Hoops short in forward areas, unless they can land key targets by Monday’s deadline.
With Adam Idah seemingly set for a £7 million move to Swansea City, the Bhoys have turned their attention to Anderlecht striker Kasper Dolberg and appeared to be progressing in their attempts to sign the Denmark international.
However, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph confirmed that Celtic haven’t managed to find an agreement with the Belgian club to bring in the former Ajax forward, leading to Idah being called back up to Glasgow in dramatic fashion ahead of Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.
He stated on X: “A frantic Friday for Celtic transfer news… Idah £7m deal agreed to Swansea. He heads down, completes medical & finalises terms, while Celtic make progress on Dolberg talks. As of 9pm today, Celtic still have no agreement on Dolberg and Idah has been called back up to Glasgow.”
In addition, Celtic have submitted a new bid for Hammarby winger Sebastian Tounekti worth £4.7 million, with Brendan Rodgers keen to sign two forwards and a new winger before the window slams shut.
The impact of a shock Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty has left supporters desperate for business to be done, though the Bhoys have failed to strengthen their squad effectively this summer and discontent is rife among the fanbase.
However, with Idah and Dolberg’s situations yet to fully play out, a new striker target has been added to the mix following a late Celtic approach for his signature.
Celtic make contact regarding Bristol City striker Fally Mayulu
According to Football Insider, Celtic have made contact by way of an enquiry over Bristol City striker Fally Mayulu, who has shot onto the scene as a late target to bolster their pool of options in attack.
Standing at 6ft 4in, the 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Sturm Graz, helping them to win the Austrian Bundesliga title. He also lists Rapid Vienna and FC Blau-Weiss Linz among his former clubs.
Now back at Ashton Gate, Mayulu is also wanted on a loan deal by Leicester City and he is open to a temporary exit after featuring twice for the Robins this term off the bench.
Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada remain Celtic’s striking options if Idah manages to seal a departure, while Daizen Maeda has been utilised centrally by Rodgers frequently due to his opportunistic nature.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Mayulu could come into the equation and supporters will be watching developments closely over the coming days.
