Speaking to Sport, as translated and shared by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur starlet Bryan Gil has opened up over his deadline day loan move to Valencia.
The Lowdown: Gil secures temporary switch…
The Spaniard, signed by transfer chief Fabio Paratici last summer, came to north London with plenty of promise and a glowing reputation from his time in La Liga.
He even drew comparisons to Netherlands footballing icon Johan Cruyff, but under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, he didn’t exactly become a regular.
This resulted in the Lilywhites and chairman Daniel Levy sanctioning a late loan move away from north London in the hopes he can continue his development – with Gil himself now opening up on the move in a candid interview.
The Latest: Family ‘wanted’ Gil move away…
According to the 20-year-old, his family were eager for him to return to his homeland and is excited at the prospect of growing in stature at Valencia.
“I think it [Bordalás’ style] will help me a lot. I hope to grow as a player and contribute to the maximum to the coach and the team,” he explained (Sport via Sport Witness).
“I want to gain a little more experience and work a lot, I come here to give everything, to make the fans and the club enjoy themselves. I’m sure we’re going to do great things.
“It is a special day for me. I wanted to be here. My family is also very happy. They wanted me to return to Spain and now it’s time to enjoy the team and the city.”
The Verdict: Everyone is a winner…
Tottenham will be watching one with close eyes over Gil as they hope to see a Spurs star for the future grow in stature on the continent.
La Liga experts have already raved over the attacking midfielder with ESPN editor David Cartlidge certainly an admirer – once giving his take on the player when Paratici brought him to England last year.
The journalist called Gil a ‘very, very exciting’ player, ‘raw’ and a ‘potential star in the making’ (Twitter) – and fans will be hoping he eventually lives up to those tags.
