da winzada777: Tottenham Hotspur defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, with Danny Rose playing 45 minutes of the game.
The Spurs left-back has been brought back into the fold after he failed to secure a move away from the club while they were touring Asia.
Indeed, the club had announced, when naming their touring squad for matches in Shanghai and Singapore, that the England international had been left behind to explore opportunities with other clubs.
He was, essentially, transfer-listed.
But there he was, on Tuesday, starting the game at left-back as Spurs got their Audi Cup campaign underway.
In truth, he didn’t really have much to do. Zinedine Zidane’s Real, fresh from losing 7-3 to Atletico Madrid, were poor throughout and did not really test Spurs’ defence. The 1-0 win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side flattered the Spanish giants.
This was simply a way of placing Rose in the shop window.
It really is bizarre that Tottenham are so intent on selling a player who enjoyed such an excellent 2018/19 campaign; of course, he did not quite reach the heights that he did at his zenith, when he and Kyle Walker were the two best full-backs in the land. But he was Spurs’ best full-back in a season where they reached the Champions League final.
There is a degree of embarrassment here for Spurs. Perhaps they expected Rose to leave easily, to find a club and to head off into the sunset.
Football FanCast sources have said that PSG are interested but there has yet to be a formal bid tabled to the north London club.
But other reports have claimed that Rose will not be forced out; that he will only move if he feels the transfer is right for him.
And so we are left with the possibility that he will simply stay at Spurs for the 2019/20 campaign.
From a supporter’s point of view, that would not be a bad thing, as fans have set up a hashtag: #DontSellDannyRose.

But he will lack freshness. Indeed, his absence from the Asia sojourn is a concern heading into the first game of the season.
After the Real Madrid clash, he has played 45 minutes of football. Even Anthony Georgiou, the 22-year-old winger with one senior appearance for the club, has played more minutes at left-back than Rose in pre-season.
If he remains at the club and is available for selection against Villa, the former Leeds United youngster will be starved of match practice and will likely be behind his team-mates in terms of fitness. So too will Ben Davies, who has not played a minute this summer after undergoing surgery.
If he leaves, any club buying him will be acquiring a player who has not really had a pre-season and who, in all effect, has been forced out of the club.
Perhaps he will continue to play as Spurs’ pre-season winds down; if he does, expect it to be a means to an end as the club look to encourage bids for one of their best defenders.
